BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton women's basketball team opened up the Region 19 portion of their schedule with a convincing win over Passaic County Community College, downing the Panthers, 75-64, on Thursday evening at the Arthur L. Scott Center.
Alayna Day (Reading, PA/Muhlenberg) scored 16 points and
Ashley Cyrus (Philadelphia, PA/Penn Wood) added 15 for the Spartans, as they were able to pull away from a 39-36 halftime lead, to earn the victory.
The Spartans held the Panthers to just 7 points in the 3rd quarter, holding them to just 25% shooting from the floor.
Aslyn Toledo Rivera (Allentown, PA/William Allen) had 10 points for Northampton and sophomore
Briona McClain (Tobyhanna, PA/Pocono Mt. West ) hauled down a game-high 18 rebounds as the Spartans out-rebounded Passaic 56-40.
The Northampton bench played a huge role in the victory, outscoring the Passaic bench 38-11.
The victory moved Northampton to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in Region 19.
Passaic, who entered the game undefeated, falls to 2-1 overall and 1-1 in Region 19.
The Spartans will host Division II Raritan Valley Community College on Saturday at noon.
