BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton women's basketball team opened the 2021-22 campaign with a 77-58 loss to Prince George's Community College (MD) on Tuesday evening at the Spartan Center.
The Spartans, who trailed 36-32 af the half, were outscored 29-15 in the decisive 3rd quarter.
Northampton shot 41.5% from the field, 43% from behind the arc and out-rebounded the Owls, 43-40, but turnovers (35) spelled disaster for the Spartans.
Aslyn Toledo-Rivera (Allentown, PA/William Allen) scored 15 points and
Alayna Day (Reading, PA/Muhlenberg) added 13 to lead Northampton, while
Genesis Martinez (Reading, PA/Muhlenberg) pulled down a team high 7 rebounds.
Vanessa Schwarzmann led the Owls with 25 points, including seven 3-pointers.
The Spartans, now 0-1, return to action on Tuesday November 9th at 5pm when they host Penn State Hazleton at 5pm.
