BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton women's basketball team earned the first victory of the
Terrence Bomar-Era with a 64-48 win over PSU-Hazleton on Tuesday evening at the Arthur L. Scott Center. The Spartans led the entire contest, providing the the first-year mentor with his inaugural collegiate victory.
Aslyn Toledo Rivera (Allentown, PA/William Allen) led four Spartans in double-figures with 12, followed by
Briona McClain (Tobyhanna, PA/Pocono Mt. West ) with 11 and
Alayna Day (Reading, PA/Muhlenberg) and
Raquel Costache (Bushkill, PA/E. Stroudsburg North) each with 10.
The Spartans out-rebounded PSU-Hazleton 42-28 and limited the visitors to just 31% shooting from the field (19/61).
Offensively, Northampton shot 41% from the field and 40% from distance (6 of 15), but struggled at the charity stripe, where they only converted 10 of 24 attempts.
Xion Spence (Bushkill, PA/E. Stroudsburg North) led the Spartans on the boards with 11 rebounds, while McClain added 8.
Northampton, which improves to 1-1 with the victory, will host Passaic County Community College on Thursday evening at 5pm in their first Region 19 contest of the year.
Rocky Curry led PSU Hazleton with 15 points, as the Lions fell to 1-2 on the season.
