SCRANTON, Pa. - The 13th ranked Northampton women's basketball team dropped a non-conference match-up on Thursday evening, falling 76-53 to NJCAA Division II member Lackawanna College.

The Spartans trailed 16-14 after the 1st quarter, but the Falcons outscored Northampton 26-9 in the 2nd quarter and then cruised to the 23-point victory. 

"We have to look at these games against Division II teams as an opportunity to improve and prepare ourselves for our conference schedule next semester," remarked Head Coach Terrence Bomar, "It's good to learn from games like this as we strive to get this program back to the postseason."

NJCAA Division III Player of the Week Briona McClain (Tobyhanna, PA/Pocono Mt. West ) led Northampton with 14 points and 13 rebounds, while Xion Spence (Bushkill, PA/E. Stroudsburg North) added 7 points and 10 rebounds. 

The loss drops Northampton to 7-4 overall, while Lackawanna improves to 3-3. 

Northampton is set to host NJCAA Division II Harcum College on Sunday at 12pm in their final contest before break.
