VINELAND, NJ - The Northampton Softball team dropped a doubleheader on Saturday, falling 11-2 and 14-6 to the Dukes of RCSJ-Cumberland.
GAME ONE - Lost 11-2
The Dukes jumped out to a 3-0 lead after two innings, but the Spartans responded with 2 runs in the top of the 3rd as
Destiny Koppenhaver (Easton, PA/Commonwealth Charter ) singled and eventually scored on a line drive from
Sophia Iovino (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic).
Alexa Fancera (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom), who also singled in the inning, scored off an error by Cumberland shortstop Madison Sloan.
Cumberland held the Spartans scoreless the rest of the contest, to earn the 11-2 victory. Fancera,
Jackie Jones (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty), Iovino and Koppenhaver had hits for the Spartans, who fell to 1-5 with the loss.
Hailey Druckenmiller (Orefield, PA/Parkland ) took the loss in the circle, allowing 5 runs and 7 hits in 3 innings of work.
GAME TWO - Lost 14-6
In game two, Cumberland jumped out to a 9-0 lead after two innings and then cruised to the 14-6 victory.
Sophia Iovino (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) finished 3 for 3 with a triple and 2 runs scored and
Maria Pezzino (Nazareth, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) was 1 for 2 with 3 RBI to lead the Spartan offense.
Madison Hendrickson (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) added 2 RBI and a run scored.
Emily Michael (Easton/Easton ) took the loss, allowing 14 runs (6 earned), striking out 3 and walking 5.
The Spartans fell to 1-6 with the loss, while Cumberland improved to 7-7 overall.
Northampton returns to action on Tuesday when they travel to Scranton to face Lackawanna College.
