NEWTON, NJ - The Northampton Softball team picked up two victories on Saturday, sweeping Sussex County Community College 7-4 and 10-5 to improve to 3-8 overall on the season.
GAME ONE - Won 7-4
The Spartans scored 3 runs in the top of the 2nd inning, highlighted by a 2-run homerun from
Maria Pezzino (Nazareth, PA/Bethlehem Catholic). Northampton tacked on 3 more runs in the 3rd, with
Destiny Koppenhaver (Easton, PA/Commonwealth Charter ) driving in two runs on a single to left field, scoring
Emily Michael (Easton/Easton ) and Pezzino, who both had singled.
Hailey Druckenmiller (Orefield, PA/Parkland ), who picked up the win in the circle, allowing 4 runs (2 earned) while striking out 8 and walking 5, also added 3 hits and a RBI.
Alexa Fancera (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom) finished 2 for 5, Pezzino was 2 for 3 with 2 RBI, and Koppenhaver was 2 for 4 with 2 RBI to pace the Spartans.
GAME TWO - Won 10-5
Northampton put 6 runs on the board in the 2nd inning and never looked back in earning the sweep. The big play of the inning was a
Sophia Iovino (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) bases-clearing triple, followed by her steal of home.
Emily Michael (Easton/Easton ) added a run-scoring double to put Northampton up 7-2.
Emily Michael (Easton/Easton ) picked up her first win of the season with a complete game, allowing 5 runs while fanning 6 and walking 5.
Iovino finished 5 for 5 with 4 RBI,
Jackie Jones (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) was 3 for 5 with a RBI, while
Hailey Druckenmiller (Orefield, PA/Parkland ) added 3 walks.
The Spartans are off until Thursday April 22nd when they travel to Blue Bell, PA to face Montgomery County Community College.
