BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton Softball team dropped a doubleheader to NJCAA Division II member Lackawanna College on Tuesday afternoon, losing game one 12-2 and falling 12-8 in the nightcap.
GAME ONE - Lost 12-2
Jackie Jones (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) recorded Northampton's only hit, with a double in the 4th inning, as the Spartans stranded 7 runners in the 12-2 setback.
Hailey Druckenmiller (Orefield, PA/Parkland ) took the loss in the circle, allowing 12 runs (10 earned) on 11 hits over 5 innings, falling to 1-1 on the season.
Druckenmiller and
Maria Pezzino (Nazareth, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) each recorded a RBI, as the Spartans plated 2 runs in the bottom of the 4th inning.
GAME TWO - Lost 12-8
The Spartans battled in game two, taking a 5-4 lead into the 5th inning before the Falcons exploded for 5 runs in the top of the 5th to take a 9-5 lead. After a scoreless 6th inning, both teams put 3 runs across the plate in the 7th to make the final score 12-8.
Alexa Fancera (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom) was 2 for 4 with a RBI and 2 runs scored, while
Hailey Druckenmiller (Orefield, PA/Parkland ) and
Sophia Iovino (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) each finished 2 for 3 with 2 RBI.
Druckenmiller took the loss, coming on in relief of game two starter
Emily Michael (Easton/Easton ), allowing 6 runs in 2.2 innings of work. Michael went 4.1 innings, allowing 6 runs (5 earned) while striking out 4 and walking 5.
The losses drop Northampton to 1-3 overall, while Lackawanna improved to 7-3 on the season.
The Spartans are back in action on Thursday when they host Middlesex College at 3:30pm
