BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton women's basketball team dropped their first game of the spring semester, falling 62-61 to #15 Camden County College on Thursday evening at the Arthur L. Scott Center.
The Spartans, who received votes in the latest NJCAA poll, led 48-40 entering the 4th quarter and built their lead to 10 with 8:49 remaining in the contest, but the Cougars mounted a furious comeback to take the lead by one point with 13 seconds remaining in the contest. The Spartans were able to draw a foul on a drive to the basket, but could not convert from the foul line.
Alayna Day (Reading, PA/Muhlenberg) led Northampton with 18 points,
Deovion Yates (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin East) had 11 and
Aslyn Toledo Rivera (Allentown, PA/William Allen) added 10.
Briona McClain (Tobyhanna, PA/Pocono Mt. West ) had another big game on the boards, hauling down 20 rebounds, in addition to her 8 points.
Northampton out-rebounded Camden 53-41, but only shot 32% from the floor (21/66) and committed 28 turnovers after not playing since December 12th.
The Spartans, who fall to 8-5 overall and 4-1 in Region 19, are now off until Tuesday night when they are scheduled to host Lehigh Carbon Community College at 5pm**.
Camden improves to 11-4 overall and 8-2 in Region 19.
