BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The 14th ranked Northampton women's basketball team opened the 2022-23 campaign with a dominating 105-26 victory over Bucks County Community College on Tuesday evening at the Arthur L. Scott Center.
Freshman
Kania Day (East Stroudsburg, PA/East Stroudsburg South) led the Spartans with 23 points and 11 rebounds, while
Shawneeta Simmons (Harrisburg, PA/Harrisburg-Sci Tech) added 21 points and 9 boards.
The Spartans jumped out to a convincing 32-3 lead after the 1st quarter and never looked back, in posting the 79-point victory.
Deovion Yates (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin East) scored 16 points and
Zoe Cruz (Swiftwater, PA/Pocono Mt. East) had 15, as eight Spartans got into the scoring column.
Northampton out-rebounded Bucks 56-21, including 29 offensive rebounds.
"I thought our freshman played very well," remarked Head Coach
Terrence Bomar, "obviously early in the year with lots to work on, but overall a great opening night."
The win moves Northampton to 1-0 overall, while Bucks, a member of the USCAA, falls to 0-1.
The Spartans return to action on Thursday when they travel to New York to face Broome Community College at 6pm.
Caroline McSorley led Bucks with 22 points.
