BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton women's basketball team dropped a one-point decision to Camden County College, falling 60-59 to the Cougars on Tuesday evening at the Arthur L. Scott Center.
The Spartans held a 31-26 lead at halftime, thanks in part to a stellar 1st quarter defensive effort, where they held Camden to just 7 points, while scoring 17 of their own.
Camden came out strong in the second half, outscoring Northampton 16-11 in the 3rd quarter to tie the game at 42 heading into the 4th quarter.
The Cougars won the game at the foul line in the final stanza, knocking down 6 of 8 for the charity stripe and finishing 20 of 24 for the game. In contrast, the Spartans struggled from the line, converting only 14 of 30 attempts.
The Spartans had a great look at the buzzer, but the shot rolled off the rim as time expired, giving Camden the thrilling 1-point victory.
Aslyn Toledo Rivera (Allentown, PA/William Allen) led the Spartans with 20 points and grabbed 9 rebounds, while
Alayna Day (Reading, PA/Muhlenburg) added 14 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists.
Xion Spence (Bushkill, PA/East Stroudsburg North) led Northampton with 11 rebounds.
The loss drops Northampton to 6-5 overall and 2-2 in Region 19 as they head into the semester break.
Camden improves to 9-3 overall and 6-2 in Region 19.
The Spartans are now off until January 12th, when they travel to Bergen Community College.
