BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton women's basketball team used a dominating performance on the glass to down Mercer County Community College 87-54 on Thursday evening at the Arthur L. Scott Center in a non-conference match-up.
Northampton out-rebounded the Vikings 67 to 28, including 34 offensive rebounds, leading to 40 points in the paint. Three Spartans grabbed double-digit rebounds, led by
Anajah Hines (Plainfield, NJ/Corinth Holders (NC)) with 16, and
Aslyn Toledo Rivera (Allentown, PA/William Allen) and
Briona McClain (Tobyhanna, PA/Pocono Mt. West ) each with 12.
The Spartans pulled away from a 39-31 halftime lead, outscoring the Vikings 48 to 23 in the 3rd and 4th quarters.
McClain scored a team-high 18 points, while
Alayna Day (Reading, PA/Muhlenberg) 16,
Xion Spence (Bushkill, PA/E. Stroudsburg North) 11 and Toledo-Rivera 10, also reached double-figures.
Northampton improves to 12-5 overall, while Mercer falls to 2-13.
The Spartans are now off until February 8th when they host Central Penn in a non-conference matchup at 5pm.
