BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton softball team split a Region 19 doubleheader with Camden County College on Saturday afternoon, taking game one 9-8 in extra innings, and falling 9-7 in the nightcap.
Game One - Northampton 9 | Camden 8 (8 innings)
The Spartans jumped out to a commanding 7-2 lead after 6 innings behind the bats of
Siera Klingle (East Bangor, PA/Bangor) and
Natalie Lazaro (Allentown, PA/Emmaus), but Camden County College was able to plate 5 runs in the 7th to force extra innings.
In the extra stanza, Camden scored one run in the top half of the 8th, but the Spartans rallied to score two in the bottom half, as
Makaylah Sutton (Avenel, NJ/Colonia) doubled home
Regina Bangcoro (Easton, PA /Easton) with two outs to give Northampton the 9-8 victory.
Klingle finished 3 for 5 with 3 RBI, including a solo homerun in the 4th inning. Lazaro was 3 for 4 with 3 runs scored and
Madelyn Ott (Bangor, PA/Bangor ) went 2 for 3 as the Spartans pounded out 12 hits.

Bangcoro got the win in the circle, coming on in relief of
Bridget Pavelko (Bethlehem, PA /Notre Dame - Green Pond ), throwing 3 innings, allowing 3 runs on 2 hits and striking out 3. Pavelko struck out 5 in 5 innings of work.
Game Two - Camden 9 | Northampton 7
The Spartans once again jumped out to a big lead, holding a 7-4 advantage entering the 6th inning, but once again the Cougars responded late in the game, scoring 3 runs in the 6th and 2 in the 7th to claim the 9-7 comeback victory.
Dana Fisher (Wind Gap, PA/Pen Argyl) led Northampton with a 3 for 3 effort at the plate, while
Siera Klingle (East Bangor, PA/Bangor) was 2 for 4 with a RBI,
Makaylah Sutton (Avenel, NJ/Colonia) finished 2 for 4 with 2 RBI and
Regina Bangcoro (Easton, PA /Easton) added 2 hits.
Klingle took the loss in the circle with 5 innings of work, allowing 7 runs (4 earned) on 7 hits, with 3 strikeouts. Bangcoro finished the last 2 innings, allowing 2 runs on 3 hits.
The split moves Northampton to 2-10 overall and 1-5 in Region 19.
Camden moves to 4-13 overall and 3-7 in Region 19.
The Spartans are back in action on Wednesday when they host Union County College in a Region 19 doubleheader slated for 3:30pm.
