BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton Softball opened up the Region 19 portion of their schedule on Saturday, hosting perennial powerhouse Brookdale Community College at Spartan Field.
Game One - Brookdale 11 | Northampton 5
The Spartans jumped out to an early lead, scoring 3 runs in the bottom of the 1st inning, but the Jersey Blues began to find their groove in the 3rd inning plating 2 runs, followed by 4 in the 4th and 5 in the 5th.
Northampton responded with a run in the 4th and a run in the 5th, but it wasn't enought to close the gap on Brookdale, as the Jersey Blues held on for the 11-5 win.
Dana Fisher (Wind Gap, PA/Pen Argyl) went 2 for 4 with a RBI,
Makaylah Sutton (Avenel, NJ/Colonia) was 2 for 3 with a RBI and
Regina Bangcoro (Easton, PA /Easton) finished 1 for 3 with 2 RBI and a run scored.
Bangcoro took the loss in the circle, working 5.0 innings, allowing 11 runs (9 earned) on 13 hits, striking out 5 and walking 3.
Siera Klingle (East Bangor, PA/Bangor) came on in relief, throwing the final two innings, allowing 0 runs on 0 hits, striking out 2 and walking 2.
Game Two - Brookdale 6 | Northampton 1
In game two, the Spartans struggled to manufacture runs, falling 6 to 1.
Brookdale took a 3-0 lead into the bottom of the 4th before the Spartans were able to score their first, and only, run of the game.
Natalie Lazaro (Allentown, PA/Emmaus) had a hit and a run scored, while
Bridget Pavelko (Bethlehem, PA /Notre Dame - Green Pond ) was 1 for 3 with a RBI.
Siera Klingle (East Bangor, PA/Bangor) took the loss, throwing a complete game 6 hitter, allowing 6 runs, striking out 3 and walking 4.
The two losses drops Northampton to 1-6 overall and 0-2 in Region 19.
Brookdale improves to 9-3 overall and 4-0 in Region 19.
The Spartans doubleheader scheduled for Sunday at Raritan Valley Community College has been postponed.
