SCHNECKSVILLE, Pa. - The Northampton men's soccer team, which received votes in the latest NJCAA national poll, battled to a 1-1 tie with Lehigh Carbon Community College on Thursday evening at Cougar Field.
After a scoreless first half the Cougars jumped out early in the second half, scoring just 5 minutes in to take a 1-0 advantage.
Lehigh Carbon held the 1-0 lead for the next 80 minutes until
Matthew Bayda (Bethlehem, PA/Nazareth) found
Derek Filipkowski (Bangor, PA/Bangor ) in the box and Filipkowski deposited a perfectly-placed headball in the back of the net to knot the contest at 1-1.
The two teams battled through the final 5 minutes of regulation and two scoreless overtime periods to end in the 1-1 deadlock.

Drake Brackett (West Easton, PA/Wilson) recorded 5 saves between the pipes for Northampton.
The tie puts Northampton at 4-1-1 overall, 2-1-1 in Region 19 and 1-0-1 in the EPAC.
Lehigh Carbon moves to 2-4-2 overall, 1-3-1 in Region 19 and 1-3-1 in conference play.
The Spartans have a quick turnaround as they hit the pitch on Saturday at noon, when they host the Roadrunners of RCSJ-Gloucester.
