BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Northampton sophomore
Xion Spence (Bushkill, PA/East Stroudsburg North) recorded a double-double on Saturday afternoon to help lead the Spartans to a 76-58 victory over visiting Nassau Community College at the Arthur L. Scott Center.
Spence finished with 21 points, including an 11 for 13 effort from the foul line, and grabbed 21 rebounds as the Spartans pulled away from a 26-26 halftime deadlock, outscoring the Lions 50-32 in the second half.
"Today we did a lot of the little things right," remarked Head Coach
Terrence Bomar, "free throw shooting was a big part of that, knocking down 19 of 23 attempts."
Shanaiya Ellis (Allentown, PA/William Allen) scored 13 points and dished out 3 assists, while
Zoe Cruz (Swiftwater, PA/Pocono Mt. East) added 12 points, including 3 3-pointers.
The Spartans outrebounded Nassau 70 to 42 and held the Lions to 26% shooting from the field.
The win moves Northampton to 10-5 overall, while Nassau (Region 15) falls to 7-7.
Northampton is off until Thursday January 26th when they travel to Scranton, Pennsylvania to face NJCAA Division II member Lackawanna College at 5pm.
