BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton women's basketball team downed Passaic County Community College, 70-58, on Thursday evening at the Arthur L. Scott Center, to advance to the Region 19 / NJCAA North Atlantic District Championship game on Saturday March 4th. 

The Spartans jumped out to 15-6 lead after the 1st quarter and extended that lead to 33-16 at halftime.  The Panthers mounted a comeback in the 3rd quarter, outscoring the Spartans 29-19, cutting the margin to 52-45, but Northampton was able to withstand the Passaic pressure to secure their 4th Region 19 Championship game appearance in program history. 

"This team continues to amaze me every game," stated Head Coach Terrence Bomar, "we were really locked in and were able to maintain our composure throughout the game.  I am thrilled for our team as we now move on to the championship game on Saturday."

Kania Day (East Stroudsburg, PA/East Stroudsburg South) led the Spartans with 18 points, followed by Alayna Day (Reading, PA/Muhlenburg) with 15, Xion Spence (Bushkill, PA/East Stroudsburg North) 13 and Zoe Cruz (Swiftwater, PA/Pocono Mt. East) 11. 

Spence led the Spartans with 14 rebounds, as Northampton out-rebounded the Panthers 48-35. 

Free throw shooting was key for the Spartans, as they finished 26 of 34 (76.5%) from the line.

The win moves 2nd seeded Northampton to 19-6 overall, while #6 Passaic finishes 15-12. 

The Spartans will now host the Region 19 / North Atlantic District Championship on Saturday March 4th vs. #4 Camden at 12pm.
