MYRTLE BEACH, SC - The Northampton softball team opened the 2023 campaign with back to back victories, down Glen Oaks Community College 4-3 and Bay College, 7-0, on day one of their Spring Trip.
GAME ONE - Glen Oaks Community College (Won 4-3)
In game one, the Spartans took a 3-0 lead into the bottom of the 6th before Glen Oaks plated a run to make it 3-1 entering the 7th. The Spartans responded with a run of their own in the top half of the inning to make it 4-1, but Glen Oaks responded with 2 runs in the bottom of the 7th to cut it to 4-3, before
Theresa Luongo (Phillipsburg, NJ/Phillipsburg (NJ)) shut the door on the Vikings, to give Northampton the 4-3 victory.
Aramie Arroyo (Minersville, PA/Minersville) was dominant in the circle, going 6.2 innings, allowing 1 run on 4 hits, striking out 16 to earn her first collegiate win. Luongo picked up the final out of the game with a strikeout.
Bridget Pavelko (Bethlehem, PA/Notre Dame - Green Pond) had a big day at the plate, finishing 2 for 2 with a walk, a homerun and 2 RBI.
Hannah Karc (Wind Gap, PA/Nazareth) went 2 for 3 and
Jillian Reed (Burlington, NJ/Burlington Institute of Technology (NJ)) was 1 for 3 with a triple and a run scored.
GAME TWO - Bay College (Won 7-0)
In game two, Northampton jumped out to an early 3-0 lead and then cruised to the 7-0 victory over Bay College.
Siera Klingle (East Bangor, PA/Bangor) earned the win with 5 innings of work, allowing no runs on just 1 hit while striking out 3 and walking 2. Luongo picked up the save, working the final 2 innings, allowing no runs and no hits, striking out 1 and issuing 1 walk.
Klingle finished 2 for 3 at the plate with a double,
Chelsea Melkowits (Lanoka Harbor, NJ/Lacey Township (NJ)) was 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored and a RBI,
Cassandra Schillo (Sellersville, PA/Pennridge) was 1 for 3 with 2 RBI and
Jillian Reed (Burlington, NJ/Burlington Institute of Technology (NJ)) went 2 for 3 with 2 RBI and a run scored.
The victories move Northampton to 2-0 overall.
The Spartans are back in action on Tuesday as they scheduled to face Division I Lincoln Trail CC at 9am and then Division II Frederick CC at 11am.
