MYRTLE BEACH, SC - The Northampton Softball team earned a split on Monday, falling to NJCAA Division I Lincoln Trail College, 4-3, and then downing Division II Frederick Community College, 15-6, in the nightcap.
GAME ONE - Lincoln Trail College (Lost 4-3)
Northampton jumped out to a 2-0 lead vs. Lincoln Trail, as
Siera Klingle (East Bangor, PA/Bangor) tripled to lead off the 2nd inning,
Kara Wilson (Bethlehem, PA/Nazareth) walked and then stole second and
Cassandra Schillo (Sellersville, PA/Pennridge) then drove them both home with a drive to left center.Â
Lincoln Trail evened the score at 2-2 with 2 runs in the bottom of the 3rd, but after 3 scoreless innings, Northampton retook the lead in the top of 7th.Â
Bridget Pavelko (Bethlehem, PA/Notre Dame - Green Pond) doubled with two outs and then scored on a pinch hit single from
Alyssa Dima (Effort, PA/Manville), putting Northampton up 3-2.
Lincoln Trail then strung together 3 hits and 2 bunts in the bottom of the 7th to manufacture 2 runs and earn the 4-3 victory.Â
Aramie Arroyo (Minersville, PA/Minersville) took the loss for Northampton, allowing 4 runs (1 earned) on 8 hits over 6.1 innings of work. Arroyo struck out 2 and walked none.
Jillian Reed (Burlington, NJ/Burlington Institute of Technology (NJ)) finished 2 for 4, Klingle was 1Â for 3 and Schillo was 1 for 3 with 3 RBI.
GAME TWO - Frederick Community College (Won 15-6)
In game two, Northampton fell behind early, but was able to score in 4 of the 6 innings to pull out the run-rule shortened 15-6 victory.Â
Jillian Reed (Burlington, NJ/Burlington Institute of Technology (NJ)) was 3 for 4 with a triple, 2 RBI and 3 runs scored,
Siera Klingle (East Bangor, PA/Bangor) went 2 for 4 with a homerun and 3 RBI and
Bridget Pavelko (Bethlehem, PA/Notre Dame - Green Pond)Â was 1 for 3 with a triple and 2 runs scored.
Reggie Bangcoro (Easton, PA/Easton) picked up the victory with 4 innings of work, allowing 4 runs (no earned) on 3 hits, striking out 6 and walking 2.Â
The Spartans, now 3-1 on the year, are scheduled to play St. Clair Community College on Tuesday at 11am and Patrick Henry Community College at 1pm.Â
