MYRTLE BEACH, SC - The Northampton softball team went 1-1 on day three of their spring trip, defeating NJCAA Division II St. Clair Community College (MI) 8-0, before falling to Patrick Henry Community College (VA), 12-3.Â
GAME ONE - St. Clair Community College (Won 8-0)
The Spartans got on the board in the top of 1st, as
Reggie Bangcoro (Easton, PA/Easton) walked,
Cassandra Schillo (Sellersville, PA/Pennridge)Â doubled and
Kara Wilson (Bethlehem, PA/Nazareth) lined a single to center to put Northampton up 1-0.Â
Northampton opened things up in the 2nd inning, scoring 6 runs to take a commanding 8-0 lead, which is all pitcher
Aramie Arroyo (Minersville, PA/Minersville) would need. The freshman right-hander threw 5 scoreless innings, allowing just 4 hits while striking out 9 and walking none, improving to 2-1 on the season.
Reggie Bangcoro (Easton, PA/Easton) finished 1 for 2 with 2 RBI,
Siera Klingle (East Bangor, PA/Bangor) was 1 for 2 with 2 RBI and
Chelsea Melkowits (Lanoka Harbor, NJ/Lacey Township (NJ)) added 2 hits, as the Spartans finished with 10 hits as a team.Â
GAME TWO - Patrick Henry Community College (Lost 12-3)
In game two, Patrick Henry jumped on a couple early Spartan miscues and put a 5 spot on the board in the top of the 1st. The Spartans responded with 2 runs in the bottom half of the inning off of a 2-run double from
Siera Klingle (East Bangor, PA/Bangor), which scored
Reggie Bangcoro (Easton, PA/Easton) and
Jillian Reed (Burlington, NJ/Burlington Institute of Technology (NJ)), but Northampton could not make up the early deficit, as Patrick Henry won the run-rule shortened 12-3 affair.Â
Chelsea Melkowits (Lanoka Harbor, NJ/Lacey Township (NJ)) had 2 hits and
Jillian Reed (Burlington, NJ/Burlington Institute of Technology (NJ)) was 1 for 2 with a RBI and a run scored.Â
The split puts Northampton at 4-2 on the season.Â
The Spartans are scheduled to face Bryant & Stratton at 9am and Harford Community College at 3pm on Wednesday.Â
