MYRTLE BEACH, SC - The Northampton softball team picked up another victory on Wednesday, downing Division II Bryant & Stratton College 13-12, before falling to Division I Harford Community College in the nightcap.
GAME ONE - Bryant & Stratton (Won 13-12)
Trailing 12-9 entering the bottom of the 7th, the Northampton softball team rallied for 4 runs to earn a thrilling 13-12 victory on Wednesday afternoon.
Lauren Wehr (East Stroudsburg, PA/Pocono Mt. East) led off the inning with a hit by pitch and was replaced by pinch-runner
Chelsea Melkowits (Lanoka Harbor, NJ/Lacey Township (NJ)). Melkowits advanced on a passed ball and then advanced to 3rd base on a ground ball from
Bridget Pavelko (Bethlehem, PA/Notre Dame - Green Pond).
Hannah Karc (Wind Gap, PA/Nazareth) followed with a bunt single, scoring Melkowits, cutting the deficit to 12-10.
Jillian Reed (Burlington, NJ/Burlington Institute of Technology (NJ)) singled, followed by a single from
Reggie Bangcoro (Easton, PA/Easton) which scored Karc and moved Reed to 3rd, trimming the margin to 12-11.
Cassandra Schillo (Sellersville, PA/Pennridge) grounded out, scoring Reed, tying the contest at 12-12.
Theresa Luongo (Phillipsburg, NJ/Phillipsburg (NJ)) then lined a single to right field, scoring Bangcoro for the 13-12 walk-off victory.
Luongo finished 2 for 3 with 3 RBI, Reed was 4 for 5 with 3 runs scored, Bangcoro was 2 for 5 with 2 runs scored and Pavelko was 2 for 4 with 2 RBI to lead the Spartan offense.
Theresa Luongo (Phillipsburg, NJ/Phillipsburg (NJ)) picked up the win in relief of
Siera Klingle (East Bangor, PA/Bangor), working 5 innings, allowing 5 runs (1 earned) on 6 hits, striking out 6.
GAME TWO - Harford Community College (Lost 3-2)
In game two, the Spartans held a 2-1 lead entering the bottom half of the 7th inning, only to see the Owls rally to plate two runs and steal a 3-2 victory. Harford's leadoff hitter in the bottom of the 7th is hit by a pitch. Next batter reaches base on an error, with the leadoff runner advancing to 3rd. The Owls then tie the score on a ground ball to second, and then win on a single to left field.
Aramie Arroyo (Minersville, PA/Minersville) took the loss, allowing 3 runs (2 earned) in 6.1 innings of work, striking out 5.
Jillian Reed (Burlington, NJ/Burlington Institute of Technology (NJ)),
Reggie Bangcoro (Easton, PA/Easton) and
Bridget Pavelko (Bethlehem, PA/Notre Dame - Green Pond) each had 2 hits.
The split puts Northampton at 5-3 overall.
