LINCROFT, NJ - The Northampton softball, which received votes in the latest NJCAA poll, dropped a Region 19 doubleheader on Friday evening to #3 Brookdale, falling 6-0 and 1-0, at the Jersey Blues Softball Complex.
GAME ONE - Lost 6-0
In game one, the Jersey Blues scored all the runs they would need in the 3rd inning, plating 3 runs off of 3 hits and a walk, to take a 3-0 advantage.
Brookdale's Grace Praet was able to hold the Spartan bats in check, limiting Northampton to just 4 hits over 7 innings, striking out 8.
Aramie Arroyo (Minersville, PA/Minersville) took the loss for Northampton, allowing 6 runs (5 earned) over 6 innings, striking out 6 and walking 2.
Chelsea Melkowits (Lanoka Harbor, NJ/Lacey Township (NJ)) led the Northampton offense with a 2 for 3 performance, while
Hannah Karc (Wind Gap, PA/Nazareth) and
Cassandra Schillo (Sellersville, PA/Pennridge) each had a hit.
GAME TWO - Lost 1-0
In a tightly contested game two, Brookdale scored what proved to be the winning run in the 4th inning on 1 hit and 2 wild pitches.
The Spartans once again could not muster any offense, leaving 11 runners on base.
Reggie Bangcoro (Easton, PA/Easton) took the hardluck loss, allowing 1 run on 4 hits over 6 innings, striking out 6 and walking 2.
Jillian Reed (Burlington, NJ/Burlington Institute of Technology (NJ)),
Lauren Wehr (East Stroudsburg, PA/Pocono Mt. East),
Cassandra Schillo (Sellersville, PA/Pennridge) and
Siera Klingle (East Bangor, PA/Bangor) each singled for Northampton.
Northampton falls to 13-7 overall and 4-2 in Region 19, while Brookdale improves to 21-7 overall and 11-1 in the Region.
The Spartans are back in action on Saturday as they host RCSJ-Cumberland at 12pm in a Region 19 doubleheader.
