Mustangs Shock #7 Spartans in Overtime

BLUE BELL, Pa. - Montgomery County Community College banked in a 3-pointer with no time left on the clock in overtime to upset the 7th ranked Spartans, 70-67, on Thursday evening at the Health Sciences Center.

Northampton took a 67-61 lead in overtime, but the Mustangs outscored them 9-0 over the final 2 minutes, including the buzzer beating 3-pointer, to pull off the upset.  "We struggled to execute offensively and we simply were not able to control the game down the stretch," remarked Head Coach Terrence Bomar, "this is something we will have to do better as we move toward the postseason."

Zoe Cruz (Stroudsburg, PA/Pocono Mt. East) led four Spartans in double figures with 17, followed by Shanaiya Ellis (Allentown, PA/William Allen) with 15, Kania Day (East Stroudsburg, PA/East Stroudsburg South) with 13 and Kamauri Gordon-Bey (Red Lion, PA/Red Lion) with 10.  Yonique Reynolds (Easton, PA/Wilson) hauled down a team-high 13 rebounds and had 6 steals.

The Spartans shot 44% form the field (24/54), but only converted 14 of 26 attempts (54%)  from the charity stripe.

The loss drops the Spartans to 11-4 overall and 3-1 in the EPAC.  *Note- the game was not a Region 19 game, so the Spartans remain undefeated in Region play at 7-0.

Montgomery improves to 6-4 overall and 4-1 in conference play.

The Spartans return to action on Tuesday January 30th when they travel to Brookdale to face the Jersey Blues at 5pm.
