BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton women's basketball team improved to 2-0 on the season with a 63-45 victory over Bergen Community College on Tuesday evening at the Arthur L. Scott Center, moving to 10-2 all-time vs. the Bulldogs.
The Spartans and Bulldogs found themselves tied at 11 after the 1st quarter, but Northampton was able to outscore Bergen 22-14 in the 2nd quarter to take a 33-25 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Northampton was able to extend their lead to 51-38 after 3 quarters and then cruised to the 18 point victory.
"Really excited to get our first Region 19 victory," remarked Head Coach
Carly Gallagher, "I'm proud of the team and how they played tonight, I thought we did a good job on the boards, but we need to do a better job taking care of the ball."
Layla Sweatte (Allentown, PA/William Allen) led the Spartans with 25 points and grabbed 9 rebounds, while
Anisha Sepulveda (Lancaster, PA/JP McCaskey) added 13 points and 5 assists.
Raquel Costache (East Stroudsburg, PA/East Stroudsburg North) hauled down a team-high 11 rebounds and
Heaven Dubois (Lancaster, PA/JP McCaskey) finished with 8 points, 9 rebounds and 7 blocked shots.
The Spartans, 2-0, return to action on Thursday November 14th when they host the Community College of Philadelphia at 5pm.
Bergen falls to 0-1 with the loss.
