Spartans Open Gallagher Era with 83-39 Victory Over Sussex

NEWTON, NJ - The Northampton women's basketball team, under new Head Coach Carly Gallagher, opened the 2024-25 campaign with a convincing 83-39 victory over Sussex County Community College on Thursday evening at Skylander Arena.

Layla Sweatte (Allentown, PA/William Allen) scored a team-high 28 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as the Spartans sprinted to a 50-20 halftime lead and never looked back in getting Gallagher her 1st collegiate victory.  "I'm really proud of the girls," commented Gallagher, "they have bought in from day one and I'm just very happy for them to get this win tonight.  Obviously we have a lot of work to do to get where we want to be, but I'm really pleased with their effort tonight."

Anisha Sepulveda (Lancaster, PA/JP McCaskey) added 21 points and 10 assists, while Raquel Costache (East Stroudsburg, PA/East Stroudsburg North) had 15 points, included 3-3's, and Heaven Dubois (Lancaster, PA/JP McCaskey) chipped in with 19 points, 15 rebounds and 7 steals.

Northampton had 21 steals as a team and only committed 10 turnovers.

The Spartans, now 1-0 overall, are off until November 12th when they host Bergen Community College at 5pm.

Sussex falls to 0-2 with the loss.
