BINGHAMTON, NY - The Northampton women's basketball team dropped a non-conference tilt on Tuesday evening, falling to Broome Community College (NY), 58-54, at Richard E. Baldwin Arena.
In a 40 minute back-and-forth battle, the Spartans, who played without second leading scorer
Anisha Sepulveda (Lancaster, PA/JP McCaskey) (21.7ppg), struggled at the charity stripe, converting just 8 of 23 attempts.
"These ladies gave everything they had tonight," exclaimed Head Coach
Carly Gallagher, "to go on the road with just 6 healthy players, and missing our point guard, we could have folded, but they never gave up and fought for 40 minutes."
Layla Sweatte (Allentown, PA/William Allen) led the Spartans with 23 points,
Heaven Dubois (Lancaster, PA/JP McCaskey) scored11 while
Raquel Costache (East Stroudsburg, PA/East Stroudsburg North) and
Elizabeth Trethaway (Crosby, TX/Crosby) each added 8.  Sweatte hauled down 10 rebounds, while Costache grabbed 11.
The loss drops Northampton to 9-2 overall.
The Spartans return to Region 19 action on Thursday when they host 12th ranked RCSJ-Gloucester at 5pm at the Arthur L.Scott Center.
