BETHLEHEM, Pa. -
Layla Sweatte (Allentown, PA/William Allen) scored 28 points to help lead the Northampton women's basketball team to a 74-70 victory over Passaic County Community College on Thursday evening at the Arthur L. Scott Center. Sweatte, who ranks 3rd in the country in scoring at 25.4ppg, added 5 blocks, 4 rebounds and 3 steals for the Spartans.
The Spartans, who trailed 38-36 at halftime, outscored the Panthers 22-16 in the 3rd quarter and then held on down the stretch to earn the victory.
"I think we came out a little flat after the loss on Tuesday," commented Head Coach
Carly Gallagher, "we were able to knock down some big shots in the 3rd quarter and we made some stops on the defensive end when we needed to."
Anisha Sepulveda (Lancaster, PA/JP McCaskey) added 26 points, including 5 3-pointers, and
Heaven Dubois (Lancaster, PA/JP McCaskey) finished with 8 points and a game-high 14 rebounds.
The win moves Northampton to 8-1 overall and 6-1 in Region 19.
Passaic falls to 5-4 overall and 3-4 in the Region.
The Spartans hit the road on Saturday, traveling to Mays Landing, New Jersey to face Atlantic Cape Community College.
