MAYS LANDING, NJ - The Northampton women's basketball team picked up their 9th win of the season on Saturday, downing Atlantic Cape Community College, 67-47, at the Buccaneer Dome.
Anisha Sepulveda (Lancaster, PA/JP McCaskey) scored a game-high 26 points and
Layla Sweatte (Allentown, PA/William Allen) recorded a double-double with 21 points and 12 rebounds, as the Spartans overcame a slow first half to earn the Region victory.
Northampton, which led just 28-26 at halftime, outscored Atlantic Cape 26-9 in the 3rd quarter and then coasted to the 20 point win.
"We came out slow, but we were able to pick up our pressure in the second half and give ourselves a little breathing room," remarked Head Coach
Carly Gallagher, "I'm proud of how they responded and were able to pick up a big road win today."
Raquel Costache (East Stroudsburg, PA/East Stroudsburg North) had 9 points,
Heaven Dubois (Lancaster, PA/JP McCaskey) scored 7 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and blocked 5 shots, and
Imaani Mata (Bethlehem, PA/Lehigh Valley Academy) hauled down 11 boards to lead the Spartans.
The Spartans improve to 9-1 overall and 7-1 in Region 19.
Atlantic Cape falls to 2-6 overall and 1-5 in the Region.
The Spartans travel to Binghamton, NY on Tuesday night to face Broome Community College in a non-conference matchup.
