SCHNECKSVILLE, Pa. - The 8th ranked Northampton women's basketball team used a big 2nd quarter to pull away from Lehigh Carbon and then rolled to a 75-45 victory on Thursday evening at the Cougar Den.
The Spartans, who led 10-5 after the 1st quarter, found their rhythm in the 2nd stanza, outscoring the Cougars 23-9 to take a 33-14 advantage into the locker room at halftime.
Kania Day (East Stroudsburg, PA/East Stroudsburg South) led Northampton with a double-double, totaling 24 points and 11 rebounds, while
Zoe Cruz (Stroudsburg, PA/Pocono Mt. East) added 17 points and
Kamauri Gordon-Bey (Red Lion, PA/Red Lion) finished with 11 points and 12 boards.
"We got off to a very slow start, but we were able to turn things around with our defense and create some offensive opportunities," stated Head
Terrence Bomar, "we need to continue to strive for consistency as we head toward the postseason."
The win moves Northampton to 20-1 all-time vs. Lehigh Carbon.
The Spartans are now 13-4 overall, while Lehigh Carbron falls to 6-9.
Northampton is off until Tuesday February 6th evening when they host 15th ranked RCSJ-Gloucester in a Region 19 showdown. Both teams are undefeated in Region 19 play heading into the matchup, which is set to tip at 5pm.
