BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The 10th ranked Northampton women's basketball team clinched a share of their 9th EPAC championship in program history by downing Lehigh Carbon Community College, 79-38, on Saturday afternoon at the Arthur L. Scott Spartan Center.
A dominant 2nd quarter, which saw Northampton outscore Lehigh Carbon 26-6, propelled the Spartans to a 24 point halftime advantage, which they never relinquished.
Kania Day (East Stroudsburg, PA/East Stroudsburg South) had 22 points and 20 rebounds, while
Yonique Reynolds (Easton, PA/Wilson) added 21 points and 17 boards as Northampton out-rebounded the Cougars 60 to 24. The Spartans shot 43% from the floor, while holding LCCC to just 27%.
"Good effort heading into the postseason," remarked Head Coach
Terrence Bomar, "we are starting to get a few players back from injury, so hopefullly we can put a nice run together in the playoffs."
The Spartans finish the regular season at 14-6 overall, 8-1 in Region 19 and 3-1 in the EPAC.
LCCC moves to 8-11 overall, 4-5 in the Region and 0-4 in the conference.
Northampton has now won 12 straight vs. the Cougars and improve to 21-1 all-time vs. LCCC.
