BETHLEHEM, Pa -- The 10th ranked Northampton Softball team swept a doubleheader from Camden County College on Tuesday afternoon at Spartan Field , winning game one by a score of 10-3 and taking game two 13-9.
GAME ONE - Won 10-3
The 10th ranked Northampton Softball team defeated Camden County College on Tuesday afternoon at Spartan Field, 10-3. The Spartans used a 10 hit offensive attack led by sophomores
Chelsea Melkowits (Lanoka Harbor, NJ/Lacey Township) and
Hannah Karc (Wind Gap, PA/Nazareth). Melkowits was 4-4 with a double and a homerun, her 2nd of the season. Karc was 3-4 with a pair of doubles and a homerun, her 3rd of the season. Melkowits and Karc both knocked in 4 runs each to lead the offense. Melkowits also had a stolen base.
Kamryn Tokar (Emmaus, PA/Emmaus) picked up the win in the circle for the Spartans, improving to 2-0. Tokar pitched 4 1/3 innings, scattering 7 hits and striking out 6 Cougars.
Theresa Luongo (Lopatcong, NJ/Phillipsburg (NJ)) followed in relief, pitching 2 2/3 innings, allowing only 1 hit.
GAME TWO - Won 13-9 (5 Innings)
Sydney Harper (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) and
Theresa Luongo (Lopatcong, NJ/Phillipsburg (NJ)) split time in the circle. Harper pitched 3 innings, allowing 4 runs and striking out 4. Luongo pitched 2 innings and recorded a strikeout. Harper picked up the win, improving to 6-0.
Melkowits and Karc both continued with hot bats, each going 2-2. Melkowits also knocked in 4 runs.
Shana Gugliandolo (Allentown, PA/Parkland) was 2-3 with a double and an RBI.
Morgan Boyd (East Stroudsburg, PA/East Stroudsburg South) was also 2-2 with 2 runs scored a double and 2 RBI.
Note - Game Two is Official - as it was called for darkness in the bottom of the 5th inning.
The Spartans, who have won 7 in a row, improve to 12-4 overall and 6-0 in Region 19.
Camden County College falls to 5-10 overall and 4-6 in the Region.
The Spartans are back on the field this Thursday as they host NJCAA Division II Mercer County Community College in a doubleheader scheduled to begin at 3:30pm.
