BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton women's basketball team shot a paltry 29% from the field in a 65-58 loss to Brookdale Community College on Tuesday evening at the Arthur L. Scott Center.
The Spartans found themselves down 15-6 after the 1st quarter, after converting just 3 of 20 field goal attempts. Northampton was able to cut the margin to 6 at halftime, trailing 32-26, after a 20 point 2nd quarter.
The Spartans went cold again in the 3rd quarter and then rallied in the 4th, but it was too little, too late, as the Jersey Blues held on for the victory.
"Shots were just not falling tonight," echoed Head Coach
Carly Gallagher, "we never got into a good flow, but the kids didn't give up ... they battled for 40 minutes and gave us a chance down the stretch."
Anisha Sepulveda (Lancaster, PA/JP McCaskey) scored 28 points, dished out 6 assists and had 5 steals,
Kailen Felty (Pine Grove, PA/Pine Grove) had 13 points and 10 rebounds and
Layla Sweatte (Allentown, PA/William Allen) added 13 points and 9 rebounds for Northampton.
The loss drops Northampton to 12-7 overall and 9-5 in Region 19.
Brookdale improves to 13-7 overall and 10-7 in the Region.
The Spartans are back at it on Thursday, when they host RCSJ-Cumberland in a Region 19 matchup at 5pm.
