BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton women's basketball team sprinted out to a 54-21 halftime lead and never looked back in downing Lehigh Carbon Community College, 100 to 44 on Thursday evening at the Arthur L. Scott Center.
The Spartans, who grew their lead to 58 points with 2:25 remaining in the game, forced 31 turnovers and limited the Cougars to just 28% shooting from the field.
"Great start to the second half of the season," remarked Head Coach
Carly Gallagher, "we had great energy from start to finish."
Layla Sweatte (Allentown, PA/William Allen) led the Spartans with 23 points, while
Anisha Sepulveda (Lancaster, PA/JP McCaskey) added 19 points and 11 steals.
Norlejsha Thomas (Bethehem, PA/Executive Charter) finished with a season-high 17, while
Samuella Volcy (Long Island, NY/Sachem North) had 4 points and 5 rebounds. 9 of the 10 Spartans in uniform scored at least 1 point, as Northampton improved to 22-1 all-time vs. LCCC.
The victory moves Northampton to 10-4 overall, 8-3 in Region 19 and 1-1 in the EPAC.
Lehigh Carbon falls to 2-12 overall, 2-9 in the Region and 0-2 in the conference.
The Spartans continue their homestand on Saturday when they host Sussex County Community College at 12pm.
