Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball Falls at #14 RCSJ-Gloucester

SEWELL, NJ - The Northampton Women's Basketball team fell on the road in a Region 19 match up on Thursday night against the 14th ranked RCSJ-Gloucester Roadrunners. 66-53.

The Spartans jumped out to a quick start in this one and built a 9-0 lead and a 21-14 advantage after the first quarter. The early momentum for the Spartans quickly faded as the Spartans were outscored 18-10 in the second quarter and trailed 32-31 at the half. Trailing 50-44 after three quarters, the Spartans started to mount a final comeback at the start of the fourth quarter, and cut the lead to 54-53 on a 3 point basket by sophomore Layla Sweatte (Allentown, PA/William Allen) with just over 6 minutes to play in the game. However, that would be it for the Spartans, as they were outscored 12-0 down the stretch.

"Felt we came out strong and built a quick lead but saw the momentum slip away quickly," commented Spartans Head Coach Carly Gallagher, "We battled tonight against a very good team. I felt we executed our game plan and we just came up short. Very pleased with the energy and effort we put out tonight."

Layla Sweatte (Allentown, PA/William Allen) again led the Spartans offense with 14 points, 8 rebounds and 4 steals while Joey-Madison Shaul (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) add 9 points and 4 rebounds. Nia Brown (Bethlehem, PA/Executive Charter) scored 8 points and grabbed 8 boards and Abymarie Colon (Easton, PA/Wilson) added 8 points. Neoshe Perez (Bath, PA/Executive Charter) scored 6 points and a team-high 10 rebounds.

The Spartans slip to 2-2 overall and 2-2 in Region 19.

The Roadrunners improve to 4-0 overall and 3-0 in the Region.

Northampton is back on the court this Saturday, November 15th for another Region 19 showdown when they travel to Toms River, NJ to take on Ocean County College at 12pm at the Vikings HPEC Center.
