BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton Women's Basketball team, after 5 games on the road to open the 2025-26 campaign, finally got onto their home court on Tuesday evening, cruising past visiting RCSJ-Cumberland at the Arthur L. Scott Center, 84-23.
Northampton jumped out to an 18-0 lead after the first quarter and saw their lead extended to 44-11 going into the intermission. The Spartans carried the momentum out of the locker room and into the second half, outscoring the Dukes 20-3 after the third quarter and leading 64-11 going into the final frame. The Spartans stayed on track the rest of the way to seal the win, 84-23.
"Good team win," explained Spartans Head Coach
Carly Gallagher, "We did a nice job tonight of limiting our turnovers and playing simple basketball. We had 12 steals tonight and I was pleased with the way we transitioned those turnovers into fast break points. It was good to be back on our home floor."
Freshman Center
Nia Brown (Bethlehem, PA/Executive Charter) continued her strong play for the Spartans, recording her 5th double-double on the season with a 20 point effort and 13 rebounds. Freshman
Joey-Madison Shaul (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) registered her second consecutive double-double with 12 points along with 10 boards and 4 blocks. Sophomore
Layla Sweatte (Allentown, PA/William Allen) scored 21 points with 6 rebounds and 3 steals while
Al-Jhnai McClain (New Holland, PA/Garden Spot) scored 10 points with 4 assists and 3 steals.
The Spartans improve to 4-2 overall and 4-2 in Region 19.
The Dukes slide to 0-4 overall and 0-4 in the Region.
Northampton will be back on the floor on Thursday evening when they host the Hornets of Broome Community College (NY) at 5pm at the Arthur L. Scott Center.
