BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton Women's Basketball Team hit on all cylinders Thursday night, showcasing a balanced offensive attack and stingy defensive effort, in a 64-22 win over Sussex County Community College at the Arthur L. Scott Center.
The Spartans, coming off a two week break in action due to the Thanksgiving holiday and a weather cancellation earlier this week, found their groove right out of the gate and jumped on the Skylanders for an 18-0 lead after the first quarter. The Spartans carried a 37-5 lead into the intermission and went on to outscore Sussex 27-17 in the second half, cruising to their 4th win in a row.
"After not playing for two weeks it was nice to just get back on the floor," explained Spartans Head Coach
Carly Gallagher, "I was truly pleased with our half court defense. That was key. It was an overall solid effort coming off the long break. I felt we needed this tonight to just get back into our routine."
The Spartans had three players record a double-double and four scorers in double-digits for the balanced attack. Sophomore
Layla Sweatte (Allentown, PA/William Allen) led all scorers with 20 points and also grabbed 10 rebounds while
Joey-Madison Shaul (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) scored 13 points and had 7 boards.
Neoshe Perez (Bath, PA/Executive Charter) added 11 points and a game high 19 rebounds. Freshman Guard
Abymarie Colon (Easton, PA/Wilson) scored 12 points and recorded 6 steals.
Northampton improves to 6-2 overall and 5-2 in Region 19.
Sussex falls to 2-7 overall and 1-6 in the Region.
The Spartans are back on the floor on Tuesday, December 9th when they host the Ocean County College Vikings at 5pm at the Arthur L. Scott Center.
