Women's Basketball Runs Past Ocean, 81-31

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton Women's Basketball team ran past Ocean County College on Tuesday night with a dominating 50 point win over the visiting Vikings, 81-31, at the Arthur L. Scott Center.

Northampton, picking up their 5th straight win, jumped out early and led 19-12 after the first quarter and 34-17 going into half-time. The Spartans showcased  a lock down defensive effort in this one, holding the Vikings to just 5 points in the 2nd quarter and only 14 points the entire second half to fuel the win.

"I was very pleased with our effort tonight," stated Spartans Head Coach Carly Gallagher, "I felt we did a nice job of controlling the tempo and really locked it down on defense. After the first quarter, I felt we really turned it up defensively and it showed in the end result. After the first quarter, we kept Ocean at single digits in each quarter the rest of the way. That takes some hard work. That was good to see on our end."

Sophomore Layla Sweatte (Allentown, PA/William Allen) picked up the double-double and led the Spartans with 23 points and 12 rebounds. Neoshe Perez (Bath, PA/Executive Charter) scored 17 points and had 6 rebounds while Abymarie Colon (Easton, PA/Wilson) chipped in with 13 points and was 3-3 from three-point range. Forward Joey-Madison Shaul (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) scored 8 points and added a game-high 13 rebounds. Al-Jhnai McClain (New Holland, PA/Garden Spot) scored 9 points and brought down 4 board for the Spartans.

Northampton improves to 7-2 overall and 6-2 in Region 19.

Ocean falls to 0-8 overall and 0-8 in the Region.

The Spartans are back in action on Thursday, December 11th when they host 15th ranked Montgomery County Community College at 5pm at the Arthur L. Scott Center.
