BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton women's basketball snapped their 2-game losing streak with a hard-fought 62-57 victory over Atlantic Cape Community College on Saturday afternoon at the Arthur L. Scott Center.
In an evenly played contest, the Spartans used a +13 advantage on the boards to help them to the crucial Region 19 victory.
"Both teams really struggled from the field today," commented Head Coach
Carly Gallagher, "but our offensive rebounding was really a key for us, as we only got to the line 7 times today."
Layla Sweatte (Allentown, PA/William Allen) led the Spartans with 18 points,
Heaven Dubois (Lancaster, PA/JP McCaskey) recorded a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds,
Kailen Felty (Pine Grove, PA/Pine Grove) finished with 9 points and 11 rebounds and
Raquel Costache (East Stroudsburg, PA/East Stroudsburg North) hauled down a team high 14 rebounds.
The win moves Northampton to 14-9 overall and 11-7 overall, virtually clinching the #5 seed for the Spartans in the upcoming Region 19 playoffs.
Atlantic Cape falls to 6-13 overall and 5-12 in the Region.
The Spartans hit the road Tuesday for a matchup with their crosstown rival Lehigh Carbon at 5pm.
