LINCROFT, NJ - The 10th ranked Northampton Softball team dropped both games of a Doubleheader at #4 Brookdale, 10-6 and 11-10, on Tuesday afternoon at Jersey Blues Park.
GAME ONE - LOSS 10-6
The Jersey Blues broke open a 1-1 game with a three run third inning and six run 4th inning. The Spartans battled back from a 10-1 deficit with four runs in the top of the fifth but it was not enough as the Jersey Blues cruised to the win, 10-6. The Spartans put together 10 hits in the loss.
Katie Knecht (Pen Argyl, PA/Pen Argyl) led the offense, going 3-4 with a double and a RBI.
Sydney Harper (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) was 2-4 with 2 runs scored and a stolen base while also knocking in a run.
Taylor Neumann (York, PA/York Suburban) was 1-3 with a double and an RBI. Neumann also took the loss on the mound with two innings of work.
GAME TWO - LOSS 11-10
Trailing,11-4, going into the final frame the Spartans plated 6 runs but fell just short in the comeback, dropping game two, 11-10. The Spartans scored 10 runs on 8 hits with
Emma Kozy (Emmaus, PA/Emmaus) swinging the hot bat in the tough luck loss, going 2-3 with a pair of runs batted in.
Jenna Geiger (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) was 1-2 with a HR and 2 RBI.
Molly Devers (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) was 1-2 with 2 runs scored and a double. Harper suffered the loss on the mound with 2.1 innings of work.
The two losses put the #10 Spartans at 7-8 overall and 7-6 in Region 19.
The #4 Jersey Blues improve to 21-7 overall and 9-3 in Region 19.
The Spartans will be back on the field next Tuesday, April 22nd when they travel to Toms River, NJ to take on Ocean CC in a doubleheader scheduled for 3:30pm.
