WEST WINDSOR, NJ - The 8th ranked Northampton softball team dropped a non-conference doubleheader to NJCAA Division II Mercer County Community College, falling 11-3 and 12-4 to the Vikings at Simone Field on Thursday afternoon.
GAME ONE - Lost 11-3
The Vikings jumped out to an early 5-0 lead with 5 runs in the 1st inning and never looked back in the game one 11-3 victory.
The Spartans only managed 5 hits, led by
Morgan Boyd (East Stroudsburg, PA/East Stroudsburg South) who finished 2 for 3 and
Emma Kozy (Emmaus, PA/Emmaus) who went 1 for 2 with a 2-run homerun.
Kozy took the loss in the circle, going 2.0 innings, allowing 7 runs on 7 hits, walking 3 and striking out 1.Â
Sydney Harper (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) pitched the final 2.1 innings, allowing 3 runs (1 earned) on 5 hits.Â
GAME TWO - Lost 12-4
In game two, the Spartans led 3-1 entering the bottom of the 3rd, but the Vikings plated 2 runs to cut the margin to 4-3 and then scored 8 runs in the 4th to open the game up.Â
Taylor Neumann (York, PA/York Suburban) suffered the loss, working 3.1 innings, allowing 11 runs (3 earned), with 2 walks and 2 K's.Â
Sydney Harper (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) finished off the game, allowing 1 run, while scattering 3 hits.Â
Maggie Pagotto (Lehighton, PA/Lehighton) was 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored,
Jenna Geiger (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) went 2 for 2 with a double and 2 RBI and
Morgan Boyd (East Stroudsburg, PA/East Stroudsburg South)Â added a double.Â
Northampton falls to 7-4 overall while Mercer improves to 25-1.Â
The Spartans host 5th ranked RCSJ-Gloucester on Saturday, with the doubleheader scheduled to begin at 12pm.Â
