EDISON, NJ - The 10th ranked Northampton softball team split their Region 19 doubleheader vs. 9th ranked Middlesex on Friday afternoon, taking game one 17-0 and then falling in the nightcap 9-7 at the Colts Athletics Complex.
GAME ONE - WON 17-0
Katie Knecht (Pen Argyl, PA/Pen Argyl) was 2 for 4 with 5 RBI,
Jenna Geiger (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) was 3 for 4 with 3 RBI and
Morgan Boyd (East Stroudsburg, PA/East Stroudsburg South) finished 2 for 3 with 3 runs scored and 2 RBI as the Spartans totaled 17 hits in the 17-0 victory.
Sydney Harper (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) earned the complete game victory, throwing a 1-hit shutout with 6 strikeouts.
GAME TWO - Lost 9-7
The Spartans led 5-3 entering the bottom of the 5th in game two, but Middlesex exploded for 6 runs, including a grandslam, to take a 9-5 lead. The Spartans responded with 2 runs in the top of the 7th, and had two runners on, but couldn't complete the comeback.
Sydney Harper (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) was 3 for 5 with 2 runs scored,
Emma Kozy (Emmaus, PA/Emmaus) went 2 for 4 and
Jenna Geiger (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) was 1 for 4 with a double and 3 RBI.
Harper got the start in the circle and went 2.0 innings, allowing 2 runs on 3 hits, while striking out 5.
Emma Kozy (Emmaus, PA/Emmaus) came on in relief and took the loss, allowing 7 runs on 9 hits over the final 4.0 innings.
The Spartans are now 15-9 overall and 15-7 in Region 19.
Middlesex is 23-7 overall and 15-7 in the Region.
The two teams will be back at it on Saturday in Bethlehem, with game one slated to begin at 10:30am.
