BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The 10th ranked Northampton softball team split their regular season finale doubleheader vs. 9th ranked Middlesex College on Saturday, winning game one 9-0 and then dropping game two 9-3.
GAME ONE - WON 9-0
Emma Kozy (Emmaus, PA/Emmaus) threw a complete game 1-hit shutout to get the victory in game one, striking out 2.
Kozy went 2 for 3 at the plate, while
Sydney Harper (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) finished 1 for 3 with 2 RBI.
Katie Knecht (Pen Argyl, PA/Pen Argyl) led the Spartans with a 3 for 3 effort, including a double and 3 RBI.
GAME TWO - Lost 9-3
In game two, the Spartans fell behind early and never were able to catch up, falling 9-3.
Sydney Harper (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) paced the offense with 3 hits, while
Maggie Pagotto (Lehighton, PA/Lehighton) was 1 for 4 with a triple, run scored and a RBI.
Molly Devers (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) had 2 hits and
Morgan Boyd (East Stroudsburg, PA/East Stroudsburg South) doubled for Northampton.
Emma Kozy (Emmaus, PA/Emmaus) took the loss, working 3.0 innings, allowing 5 runs (4 earned) on 9 hits.
Sydney Harper (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) and
Taylor Neumann (York, PA/York Suburban) each pitched 2.0 innings, allowing a combined 4 runs on 6 hits.
The Spartans end the regular season at 16-10 overall and 16-8 in Region 19.
Middlesex finishes 24-8 overall and 16-8 in the Region.
Next up for Northampton will be the Region 19 playoffs, with seeding to be announced on Monday.
