BETHLEHEM, PA - The Northampton men's volleyball team fell short in 5 sets (25-21, 25-20, 17-25, 26-28, 11-15) against visiting Atlantic Cape Community College in Region 19 action on Wednesday evening at the Arthur L. Scott Center.
The Spartans jumped out strong and took the first two sets for a quick, 2-0, edge and then slowly started to see the momentum shift as the Buccaneers rallied to take the third and fourth sets. The Buccaneers were able to fend of the Spartans and take the fifth and deciding set to win the match, 3-2.
"I felt we came out strong and played hard tonight," stated Spartans Head Coach Rachael Aquila, "This was a battle. We took the first two sets but then saw the next two sets slip away. The fifth set could have gone either way. I was pleased with how we played. Things just didn't go our way in the deciding fifth set."
Luke Smith (Breiningsville, PA/Parkland) led the Spartans with 26 kills along with 3 assists, 2 aces, 4 blocks and 12 digs.
Calvin Long (Allentown, PA/William Allen) had 8 kills and 9 digs and
