Softball Sweeps RCSJ-Cumberland

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton softball team picked up a pair of wins on Tuesday afternoon with a mid-week doubleheader sweep over the visiting RCSJ-Cumberland Dukes at Spartans Field.

The Spartans took game one, 15-3, and battled to win game two, 7-2, snapping a four game losing streak.

"Nice to get back on track with a pair of wins today," stated Spartans Head Coach Eric Kutteroff, "We had some ups and downs the past few games and today we looked much better and it was encouraging to see."

GAME ONE - Won 15-3

Emma Kozy (Emmaus, Pa/Emmaus) picked up the win on the mound with a 5 inning run-rule complete game effort,  allowing only 5 hits and striking out 7. Kozy was also 1-2 at the plate with 2 runs scored and 1 RBI.

Kyra Miller (Whitehall, Pa/Whitehall High School) led the offense with a 4-4 day at the plate along with a pair of runs scored and 4 RBI. Kayla Patten (Lehighton, Pa/Lehighton High School) was 3-3 with a double and 6 RBI. Aniah Clavell (Allentown, Pa/Dieruff High School) was 1-2 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI and Maria Moore (Fogelsville, Pa/Parkland High School) was 1-3 with 2 runs scored and an RBI for the Spartans.

GAME TWO - Won 7-2

The Spartans scored 7 runs on only 4 hits and were able to cash in on 13 walks and two errors to take game two, 7-2, and sweep the day over the visiting Dukes.

Abymarie Colon (Easton, Pa/Wilson High School) delivered the big blow, connecting for a three run home run in the bottom of the fifth inning, extending the Spartans lead to, 7-2, and putting the game out of reach. Colon finished 1-4 with 4 RBI and Kayla Patten (Lehighton, Pa/Lehighton High School), Erin Goonan (Mechanicsburg, Pa/Mechanicsburg High School) and Marie Moore each had 1 hit for the Spartans.

Emma Kozy (Emmaus, Pa/Emmaus) had 6 strikeouts and scattered 5 hits in 7 innings of work for the complete game victory.

Northampton improves to 12-6 overall and 12-6 in Regio 19.

RCSJ-Cumberland slips to 4-11 overall and 4-11 in the Region.

Northampton is back on the field on Saturday when they travel to Paramus, NJ to take on Bergen Community College in a Region 19 doubleheader at 12pm at the Bulldogs Softball Complex.
