PARAMUS, NJ - The Northampton softball team picked up two more Region 19 wins by taking down Bergen Community College on Saturday afternoon at the Bulldogs Softball Complex.
The Spartans opened the day with a, 13-4, win in game one and cruised past the Bulldogs in game two, 15-3, for the doubleheader sweep.
"Good day today for our squad," stated Spartans Head Coach
Eric Kutteroff, "We got another strong pitching effort and felt we were pretty balanced with our lineup. We also swung the bats well again today and it is always a positive when the lineup is producing."
GAME ONE - Won 13-4
Emma Kozy (Emmaus, Pa/Emmaus) picked up the win in the circle for the Spartans, throwing a 5 inning complete game, allowing only 4 hits with 4 strikeouts. Kozy also helped her own cause at the plate, going 2-4 with a double and 2 runs scored, and collecting 2 RBI.
Rylee Sampson (Easton, Pa/Pen Argyl High School) had the big offensive day, going 3-4 with 1 run scored and 1 RBI, to lead the Spartans 11 hit attack.
Maria Moore (Fogelsville, Pa/Parkland High School) was 2-3 with a double and 3 RBI and
Abymarie Colon (Easton, Pa/Wilson High School) was also 2-3 with a double and 1 RBI.
Aniah Clavell (Allentown, Pa/Dieruff High School) and
Kayla Patten (Lehighton, Pa/Lehighton High School) each had a hit in the win.
GAME TWO - Won 15-3
Maria Moore (Fogelsville, Pa/Parkland High School) was the headliner in game two for the Spartans, going 4-5 with a triple and 3 runs scored, as the Spartans were able to score 15 runs on 10 hits.
Abymarie Colon (Easton, Pa/Wilson High School) was 2-4 with a double and two runs scored and
Elizabeth Trethaway (Crosby, TX/Crosby) 1-1 with a double and 3 runs batted In.
Emma Kozy (Emmaus, Pa/Emmaus) picked up the win for the Spartans, firing another 5 inning complete game, striking out five.
Northampton improves to 14-6 overall and 14-6 in Region 19.
Bergen slips to 4-16 overall and 4-16 in the Region.
The Spartans are back in action next next Tuesday when they host Camden County College for a Region 19 doubleheader at 3:30pm at Spartan Field.
