BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton softball team split their Region 19 doubleheader on Tuesday with Camden County College, falling in game one, 7-5, and rebounding to take game two, 14-6, at Spartan Field.
GAME ONE - Lost 7-5
The Spartans fell behind, 7-0, and battled back with 3 runs in the 5th inning and 2 runs in the 7th inning, but it was not enough as the rally fell short in game one of the weekday doubleheader.
Emma Kozy (Emmaus, Pa/Emmaus) took the loss for the Spartans, allowing 7 runs and 13 hits, while walking 3 and recording 3 strikeouts.
Erin Goonan (Mechanicsburg, Pa/Mechanicsburg High School) led the Spartans offense in the loss, going 2-4 with a double and a home run to lead a 10 hit attack.
Kyra Miller (Whitehall, Pa/Whitehall High School) was 2-3 with a run scored and a double and
Abymarie Colon (Easton, Pa/Wilson High School) was 2-4.
GAME TWO - Won 14-6
The Spartans jumped out to a, 4-0, lead in the first inning and never looked back, cruising to a, 14-6, win in game two over the Cougars.
Emma Kozy (Emmaus, Pa/Emmaus) picked up the win in the circle for Northampton, pitching 2 innings while allowing 1 run on 4 hits.
Aniah Clavell (Allentown, Pa/Dieruff High School) and
Maria Moore (Fogelsville, Pa/Parkland High School) both saw 2 innings each of relief work. Kozy was also 3-4 at the plate with 3 runs scored and 3 RBI.
Erin Goonan (Mechanicsburg, Pa/Mechanicsburg High School) and
Maria Moore (Fogelsville, Pa/Parkland High School) both went 3-3 with 3 RBI. Goonan had a pair of doubles and Moore chipped in with a double of her own.
Abymarie Colon (Easton, Pa/Wilson High School) was 2-3 with two doubles and two RBI.
Rylee Sampson (Easton, Pa/Pen Argyl High School) was 2-4 with a run scored.
The Spartans improve to 15-7 overall and 15-7 in Region 19.
Camden County College is now 12-15 overall and 11-9 in the Region.
The Spartans are back in action on Saturday when they travel to Lincroft, NJ to take on Brookdale Community College at 12pm at the Jersey Blues Softball Complex.
