BETHLEHEM, PA - The Northampton softball team picked up a pair of Region 19 wins with a doubleheader sweep over visiting Middlesex College, taking game one, 11-7, and rolling in game two, 16-8, on Tuesday afternoon at Spartan Field.
"Two good wins today," explained Spartans Head Coach
Eric Kutteroff, "I felt we had a good approach at the plate and it was nice to see 21 hits between both games. Playoffs are right around the corner and we are working hard to keep things moving forward."
GAME ONE - Won 11-7
Kyra Miller (Whitehall, Pa/Whitehall High School) was 3-4 with 4 runs scored and 1 RBI to lead a 12 hit attack for the Spartans.
Erin Goonan (Mechanicsburg, Pa/Mechanicsburg High School) chipped in with a 2-2 effort at the plate, blasting her team high 5th home run of the season, and knocking in 2 runs.
Emma Kozy (Emmaus, Pa/Emmaus) and
Maria Moore (Fogelsville, Pa/Parkland High School) were both 2-4 and
Aniah Clavell (Allentown, Pa/Dieruff High School) was 1-2 with a double and an RBI.
Emma Kozy (Emmaus, Pa/Emmaus) picked up the win with a complete game, allowing 5 earned runs and striking out 8, while scattering 13 hits.
GAME TWO - Won 16-8
The Spartans jumped out to a, 12-4, lead after three innings and and extended the lead to, 16-8 after 5 innings for the run rule win in game two.
Abymarie Colon (Easton, Pa/Wilson High School) helped pace the Spartans offense with a 2-4 effort at the plate, banging a double and a home run, with 2 runs scored and 3 RBI.
Emma Kozy (Emmaus, Pa/Emmaus) was 2-3 with a double and 3 RBI and
Maria Moore (Fogelsville, Pa/Parkland High School) was 1-2 with 4 RBI.
Aniah Clavell (Allentown, Pa/Dieruff High School) was 1-2 and
Rylee Sampson (Easton, Pa/Pen Argyl High School) was 1-3 with 2 runs scored.
Erin Goonan (Mechanicsburg, Pa/Mechanicsburg High School) was 1-2 with an RBI.
Maria Moore (Fogelsville, Pa/Parkland High School) recorded the win with 4 innings pitched, allowing 5 hits and striking out 3.
Aniah Clavell (Allentown, Pa/Dieruff High School) pitched 1 inning of scoreless relief.
Northampton improves to 17-7 overall and 17-7 in Region 19.
Middlesex College falls to 5-26 overall and 3-21 in the Region.
The Spartans are back on the field on Thursday when they travel to Sewell, NJ to take on 3rd ranked RCSJ-Gloucester in a Region 19 doubleheader at 3pm at the Roadrunners Softball Complex.
