TOMS RIVER, NJ - Brookdale Community College used a four-run 2nd inning to to propel itself to a 6-2 victory over NCC and claim the 2009 Region XIX Softball championship Wednesday afternoon at Ocean County College.
The Spartans advanced to the title game by defeating Gloucester County College, 8-2, in the 5th game of the double-elimination regional tournament.
Katlyn Snyder went 4-for-4 and
Nicole Fleming was 3-for-3 as NCC pounded out 15 hits in the victory.
Lindsay Frontino went the distance on the mound to earn the victory.
The Spartans jumped out quickly in the championship game, taking a 1-0 lead after the top half of the first on a homerun by
Tiffany Kobordo. The Jersey Blues responded with four runs in the bottom of the second to take a 4-1 lead.
The Spartans responded with a run in the 3rd inning on a RBI single by Katie Snyder to close the gap to 4-2.
Brookdale tacked on a run in the bottom of the 4th and the 6th to take the 6-2 victory and the bid the NJCAA College World Series.
The Spartans, in their first season of NJCAA and Region XIX competition, finish the year 27-10 overall.
