Spartans Sweep Ocean County College to Open Regional Play

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The NCC softball team didn't play their best two games of the season, but they did enough to come away with a doubleheader sweep of Ocean County College in their Region XIX opener.

Game one was deadlocked 0-0 until the 5th inning when the Vikings plated two runs in the top of the inning and the Spartans responded with two runs in the bottom of 5th as Casey Ord had a RBI single and Monica Koch stole home on a wild pitch to tie the game.

The game remained tied until the bottom of the 7th when Ord scored the winning run on a wild pitch.

Krysten Rockovits (4-0) earned the victory, scattering seven hits, striking out four, walking two and allowing one earned run.

Game two followed a similar format as the Vikings jumped out to a 2-0 lead.  Ocean scored a run in the top of the 2nd as pitcher Lindsay Frontino walked a batter with the bases loaded.  In the third, the Spartans committed two errors as Ocean capitalized with another run to take the 2-0 lead.

Northampton rallied in the bottom of the 3rd with three runs as Laura Bartek doubled and Brandi Musser and Gina Falco each had an RBI to pace the Spartans.

Frontino (1-1) earned the victory while Erin LaBar ptiched the 7th inning for the save, striking out two of the three batters she faced.

Northampton improves to 7-3 overall and 2-0 in Region XIX.  The Spartans travel to Middlesex County College on Sunday to face the Colts.
