BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The NCC Softball team is ranked 9th in the latest National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) poll, released on March 31, 2010.
The Spartans, who are 9-3 overall, were unranked in the preseason poll after finishing the 2009 season with a 27-10 record and a #8 ranking.
Tompkins-Cortland Community College (NY), the defending national champion, is ranked #1 followed by NCC Region XIX rival Brookdale Community College. The Jersey Blues are 10-3 and will travel to Bethlehem on Saturday to for a doubleheader with the Spartans.
"Obviously it is great to be nationally-ranked," commented Head Coach Sam Carrodo, "but ultimately it is what you do in May that counts. We are very appreciative that the coaches throughout the country believe we are a top-10 program, now it is up to us to play to that level on a daily basis."
The Spartans are scheduled to host Sussex County Community College today at 3:30pm in a Region XIX doubleheader.
