Softball Sweep Sets Up Showdown with Gloucester

PARAMUS, NJ - The weather may have been cold and dreary, but it had no affect on the Lady Spartan's bats as the accumulated 23 hits in the doubleheader sweep of Bergen County College on Saturday afternoon.

In game one Megan Dougherty went 2 for 3 with 2 RBI, Casey Ord had two hits, Ashley Venturino smacked a triple and Tiffany Kobordo added three hits as NCC prevailed, 9-0.

Heather Compton, earned the victory on the mound, improving to 3-1.

In game two, Erin LaBar (6-1) allowed three hits, struck out four and walked none as NCC cruised to a 13-1 victory.

Ord was 2 for 4, Kate Check went 3 for 4 and Laura Bartek added 2 RBI to pace the Spartan offense.

The sweep of Bergen sets up a showdown on Sunday with Gloucester County College, who entered the weekend with only one loss in Region play.  

Northampton, now 23-5 overall and 16-2 in Region XIX, would need to sweep the Roadrunners in Bethlehem on Sunday to assure themselves of the #1 seed in the upcoming Region XIX playoffs.

Brookdale Community College, who also entered the weekend with two losses in Region play, split with Gloucester last weekend and split with NCC on April 3rd.

Game time on Sunday is 12:00pm.
